STD vaccine

Posted by molly

I was just reading an article on USA Today’s website about a vaccine that they say protects against cerivcal cancer. That’s what the headline says anyway. It actually protects against an STD that can lead to cervical cancer. They are talking about making this vaccine mandatory for girls at school, or at least leaving it up to the state to decide that. Am I alone, or does that seem a little crazy to give a vaccine out for an STD? Isn’t that just allowing people to have sex with whoever they want?

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s amazing how far all these medical advances are coming. I am a big fan of drug research and finding ways for people to live their lives more healthily. I just thought it was weird to have it mandatory for 9 year olds. I know it’s not mandatory yet, but still.

Sorry about having two posts in one day. This just jumped out at me.
